About the PBC Certification Program

As creators and hosts of the annual PBC Conference and through active engagement with the PBC Community, the PBC team frequently received feedback from banks and credit unions, remarking on their inability to onboard new clients due to a shortage of adequately trained cannabis banking staff.

The creation of this Certification Program was specifically developed to address this need. It aims to assist bankers and compliance professionals in establishing a standardized baseline of knowledge around cannabis banking, to help continue meeting the growing banking demand required by the cannabis industry.

This initiative not only serves to educate and train new bankers entering the cannabis banking industry but also seeks to level-set and standardize knowledge among existing cannabis bankers and compliance professionals.

The PBC Certification Program helps:

• Expand the cannabis banking workforce
• Expand existing cannabis banking programs
• Encourage more banks and credit unions to support the cannabis industry

PBC Certification Program consists of three levels: 

• PBC Level I Cannabis Banking Certificate
• PBC Level II Cannabis Banking Certificate
• PBC Certified Professional

The Level I and II Certificates are online, self-paced training. The advanced PBC Certified Professional designation requires an in-person component that can be met by participating in the annual PBC Conference.

There is also an opportunity for banks and credit unions to achieve a PBC Certified badge when certain criteria are met.
